Rules
-FIRST BALL CONTACT
You can double any first ball (inculuding serves) as long as you
don’t use any finger action on the ball.
LINES
Correct the lines before every serve. If the court’s line has been
moved during the game by the players by mistake and the ball (hit)
lands close to the line, then the referee corrects the line first and
then checks the ball mark to decide if the hit is in or out. If the lines
are not cor- reccted before the serve, it won’t be corrected after the
rally and the decision will be made according to the current lines.
- HAND SET RULE
A poor handset is judged by three rules: First, if the ball enters
your hands at different times. Second if the ball leaves your hands
at different times. Third,
if the ball has rested on your hands and caused the ball to be
carried. A spin is not nesesarily an indication of a poor set.
Traditionally, judgment of setting is tighter on the beach but each
year the move is to let players have more latitude with hand sets.
A legal hand set over the net must be perpendicular to your body.
- REFEREEING
Losing teams ref the next match. If it is a pool play format last place
stay and ref the first matches of the play offs.
- GAME BALL & SCOREBOARD
Official game ball is the Spalding King of the Beach. All matches
have to be played with Spalding balls. If there are not enough
Spalding balls in present at that time then another brand ball can be
used in the matches.
Official Scoreboard is the Boardee Portable Scoreboard. If there are
not enough scoreboards in present then a clipboard can be used.
